Report: Michigan's offense to take another hit with a transfer

This isn't fantastic reported news for Jim Harbaugh and company.

The Michigan Wolverines are heading into 2017 with a reasonable amount of momentum, as the program has turned around during the two-year reign of Jim Harbaugh. However, the team's offense loses quite a bit from the 2016 squad, as tight end Jake Butt and wide receivers Jehu Chesson and Amara Darboh are headed to the NFL. Beyond that, Michigan also suffered a big-time personnel loss earlier in the off-season when former high-end recruit Devin Asiasi transferred out of the program, leaving the Wolverines weakened at the tight end spot.

Now, Michigan will reportedly suffer another defection via transfer in the form of running back Kingston Davis.

Davis, who weighs in at 6-1 and 245 pounds, picked up two carries during his true freshman campaign in 2016 but, for the most part, he was a non-factor on the depth chart. As noted above, Davis' size could speak to whispers that he would move to fullback and, while that is a more glamorous position in Ann Arbor than most places, it is still a perceived downgrade.

Michigan certainly would not choose for a player in Davis' mold to transfer, but the Wolverines do return some quality depth in the backfield with Chris Evans, Ty Isaac and Karan Higdon before even getting to former five-star RB Kareem Walker coming off a redshirt. It will be interesting to see what happens with this situation but, for now, we are left to assume that Kingston Davis will be headed elsewhere in the near future.
