Report: Notre Dame QB Malik Zaire to transfer, four schools in contention

Zaire started three games at quarterback in his Notre Dame career.

Former Notre Dame starting quarterback Malik Zaire will transfer from the program, according to Zaire is expected to be released on Wednesday.

Zaire's career has been very up-and-down for the Fighting Irish, and mostly down as of late. Zaire took over the starting job at the end of the 2014 season after Everett Golson transferred, but his reign on top didn't last long, as an injury derailed his 2015 season after just two games. Then-sophomore quarterback DeShone Kizer took over the starting job then, and Kizer has not let go of that position since.

According to Scout, Zaire will likely transfer to one of the following four schools: Pittsburgh, Florida, Wisconsin, or Michigan State. All four of those destinations would be intriguing for Zaire, as he could potentially add a dynamic that helps each schools' football team turn a corner.

Zaire is a former four-star recruit. As a graduate transfer, he will be eligible immediately after being released from Notre Dame.
