University of Southern California athletic director Pat Haden is stepping down from his position on June 30, but it's his decision to step down as the chairman of the George Henry Mayr Foundation that has created a stir.
A report from the LA Times details how Haden, his daughter and sister-in-law nabbed $2.4 million from the foundation for "part-time roles involving as little as one hour of work per week," via tax return documents from 1999 to 2014.
Haden reportedly pocketed $1.2 million and sent donations to USC at an alarming rate ($1.8 million of a $16.6 million in donations). According to the report, the second-highest recipient was a Catholic high school at $480,750.
Despite the founder wanting to run a "thrifty operation" that handed out as much money as possible to California education, Haden somehow shifted the direction and earned an obnoxious amount of money as scholarship spending dropped to a reported three-decade low and the donor base decreased.
Absolutely unreal.
