SEC/Big 12 matchup officially announced to open 2018 season in Houston

This is very good for college football.

It looks like the growing tradition of fun out-of-conference games to open the season isn't slowing down any time soon.

On Friday, Ole Miss and Texas Tech officially announced what had already been rumored: that the two teams would face off in a neutral site game in Houston to open the 2018 season.

While this is certainly no Alabama vs. Florida State caliber of game, it is still a fun to see two decent teams who don't traditionally face each other. It could also be a fun test of how Texas Tech's pass happy offense does against an SEC defense, assuming Ole Miss isn't devastated by NCAA sanctions and penalties by the time the start of the 2018 season comes around.

This game will join future Week 1 out-of-conference contests like Alabama and Florida State, Tennessee and Georgia Tech, Alabama and Louisville (2018), and LSU and Miami (2018), among others.
