Scout.com has VanDarius Cowan as a five-star linebacker in the class of 2017 while some other recruiting services including ESPN and 247Sports have him as a four-star OLB. However, there's one service that Cowan thinks needs to give him the elusive fifth star and he called them out at The Opening.

When he was asked about what he wanted to prove he made it pretty obvious and explicit:
Any linebacker being offered by Alabama is probably pretty special, whether or not he has been assigned that fifth star by the four major recruiting services. Cowan will have a chance to prove that Nick Saban made the right call in recruiting him and that he is worth the star should he get it by the time the final recruiting rankings come out.
