Alabama fans have raised almost $50,000 for 'Phyllis from Mulga'

If you have listened to the Paul Finebaum show over the past several years, then chances are that you have heard one of the legendary rants from Alabama superfan Phyllis Perkins, a.k.a. "Phyllis from Mulga". Phyllis has been a frequent caller of the Paul Finebaum show and has become endeared to Alabama fans across the country.

So, it should come to no surprise that, when Phyllis hit a roadblock in life, Alabama fans were willing to help.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up for Phyllis and her husband Don, who was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer two years ago that has since spread throughout his body. Don was initially given six months to live, but has since outlived that timeframe.

From AL.com:

"Don undergoes chemotherapy treatments every three weeks, a plan designed not to save his life but to ease his pain. "The doctor told him three or four months ago that he was living on borrowed time and that's just the way it is," Phyllis said.

Alabama fans have since responded in the most gracious way, currently raising nearly $50,000 for Phyllis and her family. Finebaum himself has recognized the campaign, noting "I have been very touched by what everyone is doing. It is such a wonderful display of devotion and love toward her."

Sometimes college football is more than a game, and it is wonderful to see fans of a team come together like this to help one of their own. We wish Phyllis and her husband of 38 years all the best in the time that they have together.
