The battle for quarterback in Tuscaloosa has been heating up recently and it seems there's a leader in the doghouse. Coach Nick Saban says the battle is going into the fall, but he does have a starter for now if the season were to start right this moment.
Nick Saban told me Cooper Bateman would probably be Alabama's starting QB if they played today, but that the race is far from over.

Bateman made it into the final pairing last year and even got a start in one of the six games he played in last season as a sophomore. The soon-to-be junior should have an advantage in camp as he's been in the system for a couple years and has tasted real game action.
Blake Barnett and David Cornwell are also expected to compete for the job at Alabama. Barnett is a former five-star recruit and Cornwell had some good momentum heading into fall last year before being cut out of the last pairing.
