Former Alabama CB Kendall Sheffield officially has a transfer destination

Looks like we will all see him again in a year.

Just two days ago, it was reported that Alabama cornerback and redshirt freshman Kendall Sheffield had missed the last two practices. It was later announced that the former five-star recruit would be transferring, and it now looks like we know just where Sheffield will be going: famed JUCO school Blinn College.

That name sound familiar? It is the same school that Heisman winner and former Auburn Cam Newton attended after he left Florida.

The transfer is likely Sheffield's way of bypassing SEC rules that make it difficult for players to transfer within the SEC. He has to sit out a year of FBS football anyways, so this is the route he can easily take if he wants to get back into the SEC in a year.

Sheffield was expected to get some reps with Alabama this year, and his transfer announcement came as a surprise. Even though he is just a redshirt freshman, his transfer is a big blow to the Tide's depth at defensive back. Maurice Smith has transferred to Georgia, and Tony Brown is suspended for at least the first four games of the season.

The Tide may have to piece together a defensive backfield for a while, but if any team can do it, it's Nick Saban and co.
