Nick Saban lays into Alabama assistant despite 18-point fourth quarter lead

Always the perfectionist.

Most would argue that Alabama didn't display many flaws during its convincing, 24-6 victory over Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinal on Monday. But head coach Nick Saban isn't among them.

Ahead by 18 points in the fourth quarter, Saban laid into offensive coordinator Brian Daboll after the Tigers forced a fourth down with 7:15 remaining in the game.

Though it's not 100-percent clear, it seems that the coach may have yelled, "run the damn ball" among the tirade, which Daboll seemed to take in stride.

As color commentator Todd Blackledge pointed out, it's likely that the coach wanted to score another touchdown in order to give his starters some rest during the final minutes of the game.

This isn't anything new for Saban, who made a habit out of, as he put it, "ass-chewing" former offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin during his tenure at Alabama for questionable playcalls, even when they occurred while the Tide held large leads.

Saban also attempted to take similar action with acting defensive coordinator and new Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt, who seemed to argue back with him, in 2016.

For what it's worth, Daboll's offense out-gained Clemson, 261-to-188, in total yards and accounted for two of Alabama's three touchdowns during the victory.

Still, that wasn't enough for Saban, who has earned a reputation for being one of college football's biggest perfectionists.
