Ty Simpson Chose to Play for Alabama Over His Dad's Alma Mater

Alabama's Ty Simpson has game-changing talent. The pro-style quarterback was exceptional throughout his high school football career and is looking toward his future in Tuscaloosa and beyond.

A Redshirt Freshman who played for the Westview High School Chargers in Martin, Tenn., Simpson was one of the best quarterback prospects in the 2022 recruiting class, with a similar play style to Matt Corral. Now, he's ready to take over for Bryce Young and become a college football legend, but first he needs to prove he can out play Jalen Milroe. Simpson's campaign to take over as Alabama's QB begins on A-Day in 2023, but his road to Alabama's spring game started long ago.

The Clemson Tigers and Tennessee Volunteers were once thought to be the two trending favorites for elite passer Ty Simpson. That was the past, however.

The hype started to formulate in 2019 when Simpson threw for 1,770 yards and 18 touchdowns, and the Chargers cruised to a playoff berth. His stock took off from there, to put it mildly. Simpson, who was four-star recruit by ESPN and Rivals and a five-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite, chose to take his talents to Tuscaloosa to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide and head coach Nick Saban.

In addition to Bama, Clemson, and Tennessee, Simpson also received college football offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Memphis, Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia.

The five-star quarterback also received an offer from Tennessee-Martin, where his father, Jason Simpson, is the Skyhawks' head football coach.

In the end, Alabama, then under the leadership of Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones, won again.

Ty Simpson's High School Football Highlights

There was a lot to like about Ty Simpson, both as a pro-style quarterback and dual-threat quarterback. He is as elusive as some running backs and his arm strength allows him to throw a great spiral to wide receivers with ease. It should be becoming clear why the Alabama QB battle is just beginning to heat up.

The state of Tennessee is known for developing linebackers and players on the offensive line, so it is nice to see an All-American quarterback who can make some noise at the collegiate level come from the state.

Thanks to an impressive performance at the Elite 11, an NFL future certainly seems possible for the Alabama football Field General.

Ty Simpson still has to win over the coaching staff after the spring practice scrimmage, but if he can make their decision as simple as his choice to come to Alabama, he may be the key that brings Tuscaloosa another NCAA national championship.
