Alabama lawmakers pushing bill so Auburn can make this (bogus?) boast

This definitely seems like a prudent use of a politician's time.

Seven state senators in Alabama have put forth a bill "urging Auburn University to claim nine national championships in football." Auburn currently claims two national championships, from 1957 and 2010. Here is the text from the bill:

WHEREAS, in addition to achieving the pinnacle of success in 1957 and 2010, Auburn has demonstrated supremacy in seven other football seasons; and

WHEREAS, the NCAA recognizes three exemplary Auburn football teams in its record books: The undefeated 1913 team; the 1983 team that only lost one early season game; and the undefeated 1993 team coached by Terry Bowden that was ineligible for postseason play; and

WHEREAS, the Auburn football team also proved itself to be the best team in the nation in 1910, 1914, 1958, and 2004;

According to CollegeSpun, Auburn had actually conducted a study to determine whether or not they should claim more national titles, of which they chose not to. All I can say about this bill is that it is definitely an interesting way to try and appeal to your voters.
