Auburn set to immortalize this SEC legend with a statue

It's a surprise it wasn't already done.

It's been a long time since Charles Barkley played basketball and it's been even longer than that since he played at his alma mater Auburn. He was on campus from 1981 to 1984 and was easily named the SEC's Player of the Year in his senior season.

That year, he averaged 15.1 points, 9.5 boards and 1.8 blocks for the season. He shot a ridiculous 63.8 percent from the floor and of course went on to a Hall of Fame career in the NBA where he played for 16 seasons and was named an All-Star 11 times.

Now, Auburn is finally giving him the recognition he deserves and building a statue of him outside Auburn Arena. This will mark the first time the school has built a statue for someone who was not a former football player as Heisman winners Cam Newton, Pat Sullivan and Bo Jackson each have a statue.
