The Auburn Tigers are still without an offensive coordinator as the calendar moves toward mid-January and one prominent name reportedly won't be the choice. Earlier in the week, Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich was rumored to be interviewing for the position but said report indicates that he won't be vying for the position anymore.

This is a blow for Auburn, if only because Yurcich was the biggest name linked to the job in widespread reporting. He has been extremely productive while doing the job in Stillwater and, with that, Yurcich was an appealing candidate. The Tigers are in an interesting spot because of Guz Malzahn's penchant for offense, but Malzahn has indicated that he won't be calling plays for 2017 and beyond, making this hire one of general intrigue in the SEC.
At this point, Malzahn and company will have to get back to the drawing board and it seems to be a reasonable bet that the hire will come from an off the radar place nationally. Auburn's offense was, at best, inconsistent and, at worst, brutal to watch, at times in 2016 and fans won't be shy in letting the Tigers know about it if this position isn't filled by someone who meets their ideal criteria for employment.
