Les Miles has been fired for a couple days now and there have already been reactions from every end of the emotional spectrum. Was it right to fire him so early in the season? Should the Tigers have waited for the end of the season? How does this affect recruiting? Will Ed Orgeron —- the interim head coach —- be any better the rest of the season? Those questions will be answered soon enough, but there's one former coaching legend out there who doesn't agree with the firing.

Steve Spurrier was on the Finebaum Show on Monday and said that the tables could have quickly turned for the coach on the other side of the LSU loss. Auburn's Gus Malzahn could very well be the one facing some serious heat and possibly have lost his job had his team lost instead of Miles'.
"It's amazing, if there were two or three seconds left maybe Gus Malzahn would've been the guy on the really really hot seat instead of Les Miles. But it's been rumored that they wanted to dismiss Les last year and now I just think the AD and the president thought 'let's make a move now and move forward.' That's the decision they made, very similar to Georgia last year, Mark Richt was a heck of a coach and so was Les Miles. But their schools think they should do better and only time will tell if they're right or not."
Miles was fired on Sunday just four games into his 12th season at LSU. He led the team to a 114-34 (62-28 SEC) record during his tenure and of course won the 2007 BCS National Championship. There are already rumors running rampant about who will become the next coach of the Tigers, but we will likely not have a definitive answer until other schools have finished their seasons.
