Another SEC team reportedly set to pay nearly $2 million to play a cupcake down the road

This is getting out of hand.

There have been a few SEC schools that are going to pay ridiculous sums of money in order to play cupcake teams and guarantee themselves an early win during the season. Auburn now joins Georgia in paying almost $2 million for a cupcake team as the Tigers will pay UMass $1.9 million according to Matt Vautour of theDaily Hampshire Gazette so they can host the Minutemen in 2020.

There have only been two bigger payouts in the nation as of now. Those include Florida paying Colorado State $2 million for a 2018 game, but that figure was only agreed upon after the Rams lost head coach Jim McElwain to the Gators. Nebraska also paid $2.125 million to Southern Miss in 2013, but that figured was a bump up from the Cornhuskers after they asked for the location of the game to be changed.

It looks like the $2 million mark will be broken with no asterisks or coming from stipulations pretty soon the way some teams have been desperate to get "buy games" that guarantee wins.
