Playing in the SEC West, nearly every conference game is a big game. It's what comes with the territory.
However, Saturday's contest with No. 17 Texas A&M might be the biggest of the season. Sure it's not the toughest opponent that the Tigers have on the schedule, but this game will give everyone a good measure on if Auburn can be a good team in the 2016 season.
So what can Auburn do to assure victory? Following these three keys should be their bet.
1. Continue the same QB plan that was used against Arkansas State
It was extremely refreshing to see Sean White take over as the full starting quarterback last week.
Obviously the Red Wolves are a different opponent than Texas A&M, but White was often able to get into a rhythm last weekend, and the result was his best game as an Auburn Tiger. When John Franklin III came in to be a more running-focused option, it felt like a fresh change of pace and not like the team was trying to force two quarterbacks.
That needs to continue against Texas A&M. The Aggies have a great defensive front, so there will be drives where White potentially struggles. However, he needs to be allowed to work through those struggles, because we've seen that the alternative of throwing all of the quarterbacks in under center is an awful idea.
2. Related to that last one: Keep Myles Garrett away from Sean White
Defensive end Myles Garrett is one of the best players in all of college football, and he can be absolutely dominant as a pass rusher. He is going to get to White at some point, but there is one thing Auburn can do: White has shown that, while not a dynamic runner, he is move than capable of moving around and getting out of the pocket. Take advantage of that, and put him in situations that will keep him away from Garrett as often as possible.
3. Use your speed to establish a run game
Texas A&M has more than pass rushers; they also have a good run defense, and that was a big part of the season-opening win against UCLA. A&M kept the Bruins to just 125 rushing yards on 40 carries, which won't get it done for Auburn.
Auburn has more talent than UCLA with regards to running the ball, though, which is something they are going to have to rely on to win.
Auburn doesn't necessarily need big plays from the run game; they would help obviously, but the biggest issue will be preventing the offense from being in too many third-and-long situations. Those are what will tee-up the Texas A&M defense, and if you can keep third downs from being a problem, then you can get the win.
