After parting ways with Cincinnati after a 4-8 record in 2016, former Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville announced that he was considering a return to the South in order to run for the opening Alabama Governor spot in the 2018 election.

According to 247Sports, though, it looks like Tuberville is taking his name out of that hat after two months of considering the political run. Tuberville, who had gone as far as filing financial disclosure forms with the Alabama Secretary of State office for a potential campaign, is expected to make the announcement later this week.

Tuberville was planning to run for Governor as a member of the Republican Party.
At 62, it is unclear where Tuberville will go at this point in his career. He has not experienced the same success he had at Auburn — 85-40 in 10 seasons — during stops at Texas Tech and Cincinnati, and his name was not a popular one during the most recent coaching carousel following the 2016 season.
Tuberville has a career coaching record of 159-99 in 21 combined seasons at Ole Miss, Auburn, Texas Tech, and Cincinnati.
