The SEC is widely considered to be the best conference in college football and that isn't a groundbreaking revelation. The league has experienced unprecedented success over the past decade and, even with a slight downturn over the last couple of seasons, the depth of talent in the SEC is unmatched nationally.
With that said, FOX Sports personality Colin Cowherd is thoroughly unimpressed with the league and he said as much on Thursday. As part of a full-blown rant, Cowherd dissed the SEC in a number of ways, including a tidbit about the quality of the conference's coaches.
It would be hard to fathom what kind of real argument there is to be made between the SEC and "everyone else" but the notion that there is poor coaching simply isn't true. Nick Saban is the name that Cowherd seems to hold in high esteem, but there are proven and successful coaches elsewhere (Dan Mullen, Jim McElwain, etc.) that aren't exactly slouches.
Some of this is absolutely performance art from Cowherd and it takes an element of that to do a daily radio show alone. Still, it is possible that he could really mean what he says here and, if that is the case, it would be rather baffling in some ways.
