College football guru disagrees with his peers, says this SEC team is a pretender, not a contender

Is it really absurd that this team was picked to lead it's division?

Paul Finebaum isn't exactly known for not rattling the SEC cage so when he posts or says something, the ears of SEC fans perk up faster than a dog hearing a bag of Purina rattle. That said, when ESPN released their FPI rankings in early May, there was a shake up in the natural order as the Tennessee Volunteers were the first SEC team in the rankings—at No. 5—while Alabama, King of the SEC and defending National Champion, followed behind.

Dave Bartoo, a guest on Paul Finebaum's radio show, isn't buying the notion that the Vols are true title contenders.

Georgia ranked No. 10 and Florida wasn't even in the top 10 rankings so this may be even more of a hot take than placing Alabama behind Tennessee.

It's important to note that these rankings rarely take form and by November, there will likely be another team taking over the pole position for the SEC East.
