Alabama redshirt freshman quarterback Blake Barnett is leaving Alabama. After coming into the season as the favorite by many to win the starting job, Barnett failed to beat out true freshman Jalen Hurts and was relagated to backup. Instead of settling for being the backup for the 2016 season Barnett chose to transfer after four weeks of the season and many, including ESPN analyst Danny Kanell, have a problem with this timing.
Barnett is entitled to do what is best by him for his future, but Kanell lands on some valid points. Leaving midseason is a selfish move. Instead of choosing to backup Hurts and be ready in case of injury or other circumstances to help his team, Barnett is choosing to leave. The decision to leave makes it seem like Barnett never really cared about the team as much as he did about his chance to start, which might say a lot as to why Jalen Hurts won over the team and Barnett didn't.
