Five-star Mississippi State signee Jeffrey Simmons (6-foot-4, 277 pounds, Macon, MS) is facing a Disturbing the Peace charge following the video released that allegedly shows Simmons hitting a 30-year-old woman several times., According to The Dispatch, in Columbus, Ms., Simmons, along with four others are in the process of being charged after a fight that occurred on Thursday about 6:30 p.m. at Mayfair Apartments in Macon, Ms.
Sophia Taylor, the woman Simmons is accused of hitting according to the Macon PD, Mason is in the process of filing a simple assault affidavit against Simmons.
"We are aware of the situation," a MSU spokesperson told The Dispatch on Monday. "As more details become available, we will continue to evaluate the situation.".
Simmons took to his personal Facebook page to apologize for what the video showed. Here's his full apology via WCBI in Mississippi:
Decisions, choices, and actions should always be carefully thought through when incidents occur. I take full responsibility for my actions that occurred on Thursday evening. My apology goes out to the Taylor family and especially Sophia Taylor. What was I thinking? Honestly, I wasn't thinking, all I could think was this was my family and I'm supposed to defend my family. Many know my deceased nephews were my pride and joy, I do everything I do in honor of the life they never got to live, and to listen to someone speak so terribly about them really caused me to make choices, decisions, and act in a manor that was out of character for me.
