It may seem like it was years ago, but Florida State running back Dalvin Cook almost ended up as a Florida Gator. Coo, during his recruiting process in high school, was actually verbally committed to Florida in April 2013. He remained committed, but during the 2014 Under Armour All-American week in January, Cook verbally decommitted and flipped his commitment to Florida's biggest rival, Florida State. Cook told reporters this week about some of the underlying factors regarding his decision to go to FSU.
"I thought 'coach Fisher runs this type of offense, he does things like that, utilizes backs a lot,' and I just wanted to come play for him. I saw the success he had has a coach and producing players. That's why I wanted to come play for Florida State." Cook said via the Palm Beach Post.
"To me it was all about loyalty, know who I could trust. I'm not saying I couldn't trust any of the coaches, but me and coach Fisher had a bond to where I was in good hands. I knew I was coming here and I was going to get the same things from coach Fisher (he got) in recruiting. That's what I liked about him. He's one of the best coaches I've been around."
This week, Cook will face arguably one of the toughest rush defenses he's faced all season — statistically Florida's defense ranks eighth in nation in stopping the run, allowing just 103 yards on the ground per game. Saturday's game will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. and air on ESPN.
