Florida coaches hitting the recruiting trail hard following dead period

As of Thursday, it is officially the contact period for high school football recruiting. That means collegiate head coaches across the country, including Florida head coach Jim McElwain will be on the road for the majority of the next weeks leading up to National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

Per his high school coach's Twitter account, McElwain checked in with offensive lineman verbal commit Jawaan Taylor out of Cocoa and his family. According to the Atlanta Journal ConstitutionMcElwain will travel next to Birmingham, Ala. to visit with Florida linebacker commit Jeremiah Moon, who committed to the Gators in July 2015.

The AJC adds that Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier will visit with the nation's No. 3 ranked wide receiver, Nate Craig-Meyers out of Tampa, who will be deciding between Florida, Auburn and Florida State. Defensive coordinator Geoff Collins will also be on the road seeing Florida verbal cornerback commit Antonio Nelson and five-star outside linebacker Lyndell Wilson, although Wilson is leaning towards Alabama per 247Sports.

This is a huge class for McElwain and his staff, due to the fact that it's their first true recruiting class after taking over for Will Muschamp in December 2014.
