Florida coach Jim McElwain took his turn at SEC Media Days on Tuesday and addressed a ton of questions. One of them was about who he believed should be the starting quarterback now that Notre Dame graduate transfer Malik Zaire has entered the QB battle.

Mac said he knows who his starting quarterback is going to be. Not ready to announce it yet. He did say Franks has had fantastic offseason.

Franks looked pretty good in the spring game and sounded like he was ready to take over in a leading role for the Gators offense. However, McElwain wouldn't actually give a name for who the starter will be and it still leaves the door open for last year's initial starter Luke Del Rio to get back in the action. While that's unlikely, it is a possibility for now and one that Gator fans are surely grimacing just thinking about.
The likelihood is that Zaire will get the nod though as he is a graduate transfer and wouldn't have gone to Florida if he didn't think he would start. That would make for some even more awkwardness considering he wouldn't have any more eligibility to exhaust elsewhere to try to become a starter.
