Former SEC WR shot and killed on Friday night

UPDATE: The Meridian Police have confirmed the death of former Mississippi State wideout Chris Smith.

According to multiple reports, former Mississippi State wide receiver Chris Smith was shot and killed on Friday night in an incident that took place in Meridian, MS. The

WTOK in Mississippi first reported the story, but they have yet to release the name of the victim. However, those close to the program seem to indicate that it was indeed Smith at the wrong end of this tragedy.

Details on what happened are currently sparse, but WTOK is reporting that a flurry of shots were fired at around 10:45 p.m. local time at an apartment complex.

Smith last played for Mississippi State in 2012, a season where he was Mississippi State's second leading receiver with 581 yards. For his career, Smith caught for 1,180 yards and five touchdowns.

This story will be updated as more details are made available. As for now, Smith's former teammates have taken to Twitter to mourn their fallen comrade.
