On Wednesday evening, four-star 2018 linebacker Quay Walker revealed his top five schools and it was very clear that the talented prospect will be calling the SEC home for the foreseeable future. In fact, every single member of the quintet hailed from the SEC, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and LSU. However, we now know a bit more information when it comes to Walker's recruitment and it could be insightful moving forward.
Walker caught up with Chad Simmons of Rivals on Friday and he revealed something of a surprising favorite:
"There is no doubt in my mind that Alabama is my top school. I have only taken two visits this year so far and one was to Alabama (Auburn was the other) and that was big for me. They sat me down and showed me their big recruiting board, how I am very high on their board and how they want to use me in their defense.
"They love how athletic I am and they want to use me some at inside linebacker and some as an edge rusher. Talking to Nick Saban was great too and the attention he showed me, how they made me feel and what all I saw there has put Alabama on top.
"I know I can say right now that Alabama is above the other schools."
While it is never a shocker to see a big-time player favoring Alabama, many felt as if Walker, who hails from Crisp County High School (Ga.), could choose an in-state route with the Bulldogs. Still, Nick Saban being at the forefront of the proceedings for anyone isn't crazy to hear and Walker was also quite clear that there is a long way to go.
At 6'4 and 220 pounds, Quay Walker has the profile of a potentially elite prospect should he continue to improve and Alabama just might be in the best position to land his commitment.
