Despite less than stellar season, former Alabama player doesn't regret his transfer

This turned out pretty well for both sides.

For a while, it was unclear if Georgia Bulldog Maurice Smith was ever going to be granted his transfer request away from the University of Alabama. However, Smith ultimately made the move to Athens and opened up about his decision to leave the Crimson Tide for the Bulldogs.

"It was a blessing," Smith said of his transfer to UGA. "I don't really look at the playing time. I look at the fact that I was able to make some type of impact on the team. Hopefully that'll help them for later on down the road with helping set a standard and expectations and things like that. Overall, a great move."

Although he went from a National Title contender to a team going through a rebuilding situation, Smith thrived in Bulldogs' head coach Kirby Smart's defense in 2016-17.

Smith finished the season with 50 tackles and two interceptions for the Bulldogs in 2016-17.
