Most people are really high on both TCU and Georgia after both teams have had incredible starts to the season. Both are undefeated and are looking at taking their best shot at this year's College Football Playoff.
Not so fast, though, says ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI).
After FPI updated following Week 7, Georgia is still ranked down at No. 7 behind 1-loss Ohio State, Clemson, Oklahoma, and Washington.
One team you may have not noticed on that list is TCU, as they couldn't even squeeze into the Top 10. FPI has them at No. 13 even after the 6-0 start, while the newest Coaches Poll has TCU as the No. 4 team in the land.
The likely reasoning for both teams being low here? FPI is probably still factoring in some of last season's performance in this rating, a factor that probably won't be completely shaken off for at least a few more weeks. That said, it doesn't look like that factor is killing Auburn and Notre Dame as much as it is Georgia and TCU.
The good news for Georgia at least is that FPI still favors them heavily to get to the SEC Championship Game, likely to be against Alabama. The bad news is that FPI isn't favoring the Bulldogs to win that game, and the FPI is also expecting that they will lose at least one game before they get to that point.
We will have to wait and see if both of these teams can prove the projections wrong over the upcoming weeks.
