It appears Alabama may have just lost a huge verbal commitment for its 2017 recruiting class. Four-star LB Will Ignont (6-foot2, 238 pounds, New Market, Al.) who was reportedly silently committed to Alabama for a few months, has apparently changed his mind. According to AL.com, Ignont has decided to take Alabama out of contention, after some big-time schools are after him, and other linebackers committing to Alabama's 2017 class. One he mentioned was four-star Markail Benton, who verbally committed to Alabama in June.
Ignont told AL.com that he's now "really liking" LSU, Michigan, UCLA, Georgia and Auburn.
"While they've got three linebacker commits in this class, LSU doesn't have any, certain schools that I like don't have any like UCLA, why not open up to them?" Ignont said via AL.com. "I don't want to be just one-dimensional and limit myself to playing in the state when I can go out of the state and have fun."
Ignont had several positive things to say about Auburn, and added that the Tigers will be in the running until he makes his verbal commitment, which he says hopes to come before his senior season starts.
"I really love Auburn," Ignont said. "From the coaching staff to the players, the campus itself, I love being there. It feels at home for me. Auburn will be in it until the end for sure."
He added that LSU is another school he is high on thanks to the hiring of new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, who coached Wisconsin for the past three seasons, with the Badgers finding consistent success on defense under Aranda's direction.
"If you look at his track record, everywhere he's been he's had a top five defense nationally," Ignont said. "That's somebody I want to play under and somebody I could get national recognition from. He does well with his linebackers and he did well with Wisconsin. They have great linebackers like Kendall Beckwith and I can't wait to watch them play this season."
