Georgia locks in 2017 season opener

Who's ready for 2017 now?

According to a contract obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald in an open records request, the Georgia Bulldogs have agreed to play the Appalachian State Mountaineers to open the 2017 season. The schools had lined up the game in 2014, but no date had been determined, but both schools signed the contract this month.

The game comes as a tuneup the week before heading to Notre Dame. UGA is paying App State $1.25 million to come to Athens, which is a quarter-million more than the initial memorandum of understanding. The last meeting between the two teams in 2013 saw a 45-6 Georgia win.
