Here's how Georgia's QB race stands after their first scrimmage

Some good news for the Bulldogs out of spring practices?

It looks like Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was very impressed with what he saw out of his quarterbacks after their first scrimmage on Saturday.

The shocking part? It wasn't the doing of five-star recruit Jacob Eason that had Smart so impressed.

"We did have some big, explosive passes," Smart said to DawgNation. "It's not good on defense, but it's good when you have a chance to do that on offense."

Greyson Lambert and Brice Ramsey were taking the majority of the first and second team snaps, while Eason was relegated to third team. While some people might fret about Eason's placement on the depth chart, there is still plenty for him to learn before he is ready to take over.

As for Lambert and Ramsey, it is a good sign to see Smart talking about them positively. The Bulldogs were one of the worst passing teams in college football last year, so any improvement will be accepted on that end. As of right now, it looks like Lambert may be the lead guy for the offense.

"I think Greyson's doing a nice job of managing the huddle right now, the call and executing the play," Smart said. "He's gotta be a little more mobile in the pocket. He's gotta be able to create a little bit more and get out of there and make some throws."

In a quarterback race, the guy that has the most command over the huddle is going to have a huge advantage over his competitors. Ramsey — who wound up playing punter for much of last season — will have some catching up to do when compared to the veteran Lambert. Eason, of course, still has a lot to learn in this area.

We will all learn more about the quarterback race in two weeks, as Georgia's annual spring game will take place on April 16. Of course, that game won't be the end-all, be-all of decisions, but it will give the fans a ton of insight on who Coach Smart prefers and which player is more poised to take the role of starting quarterback.
