After the Georgia head coach threw shade at fans clamoring for the freshman phenom to win over the starting quarterback job, Smart didn't exactly stray away from the notion that Eason could win the gig when discussing the issue on the Paul Finebaum Show, via 247sports.
"I have no objections to (Eason) starting the first game," Smart said, referring to the opening contest against North Carolina."I want the guy that gives us the best chance to win to start the first game. Whoever that is, that is twenty something practices from now, so we will know a lot more."
Eason was listed as a player likely to break out in 2016, while an SEC analyst noted Eason is already the best passer in the SEC.
Eason has plenty of time to win the starting spot, but he'll face a tough battle from senior Grayson Lambert and junior Brice Ramsey.
