On Friday ESPN's Coaches' First Jobs segment continued Georgia's Mark Richt, and although was an immediate success at Georgia, his career sure didn't started off that way.

"My first job in coaching was at Pope John Paul High School in Boca Raton, Fla., where I grew up. I had just gotten cut from the Miami Dolphins and was going to become a graduate assistant coach in January because I kind of missed the window for that season," Richt told ESPN. "I basically helped coach at Pope John Paul for a minute. I think I got paid a little bit, if I got paid at all. But I do think I got a little bit of money there. We kicked tail. We were 0-10."
At 0-10 that's really not how I imagine the former Miami Hurricanes quarterback starting his coaching career, but thankfully he managed to become the head coach of the University of Georgia. After his short stint at Pope John Paul High School, he made his way over to Florida State, and that's where the ball really got rolling for Richt. As he moved his way up the ladder, he became an integral part of the Seminoles' coaching staff, eventually coaching two future Heisman Trophy winners (Charlie Ward and Chris Weinke).
Now in his 15th season at Georgia, he hopes to continue his strong tenure with the third most wins in school history, but it's still always fun and look back at the past once in a while and think what might have been. Hey, if he had stayed at Pope John Paul High School he could potentially be the school's head coach or even athletic director by now.
