Mark Richt had a long 15-year stint as the head coach at Georgia, and my many metrics he had a very successful time there. However, after 15 season, Richt and Georgia finally parted ways as the Bulldogs hope former Alabama coordinator Kirby Smart can inject something new into the program.
However, ESPN's Mark Schlabach says it wasn't just Georgia "wanting something new" as the reason Richt is gone. Schlabach has Florida quarterback Treon Harris had a lot to do with it.
Florida beat Georgia 27-3 last year, with Harris manning the helm over the suspended Will Grier. Things weren't as peachy for the Gators after that game, though, as the offense heavily struggled in wins over Vanderbilt and South Carolina, all before Florida closed the season with three consecutive losses to Florida State, Alabama, and Michigan.

A lot of people feel that the Richt firing — or "parting of ways", as UGA maintains — was the culmination of several disappointing years for the Bulldogs. However, Schlabach does make a good point here; the Dawgs getting dominated by Florida in the annual Cocktail Party could have definitely been the straw that broke the camel's back. Georgia won the rest of their games on the regular season, getting to 9-3 before Georgia finally made the decision.
Of course, it didn't take long for Richt to get a new job. He was hired at Miami, his alma mater, just a month later.
