Georgia Fans Are Thrilled With New Sanford Stadium Policy

The Georgia Bulldogs have determined that starting in 2024, they'll be removing their ban on alcohol sales at Sanford Stadium 2024.

"Georgia Athletics announced major news at its board of directors meeting on Wednesday. Sanford Stadium will join its fellow 15 SEC schools in selling alcohol at football games this fall," said Palmer Thombs of DawgsHQ.

Before a meeting by the UGA Athletics Association on Wednesday, Georgia and Auburn were the last two SEC programs that had bans on alcohol sales.

To be clear, there were ways around getting alcohol at Bulldogs games, but to do so, you needed to have premium seating.

Now, all 90,000+ fans will be able to access some adult beverages.

This isn't a totally new protocol for Georgia, though. In 2021, they allowed alcohol sales inside Stegeman Coliseum for men's and women's basketball games. They allowed purchases for baseball, softball, and tennis games the following year.

Georgia has sponsors like Dos Equis, Twisted Tea, Creature Comforts, Bud Light, Coors Light, and Miller Lite.

The current rates are $8 for domestic options and $9 for premium.

Until the spring of 2019, the entire SEC had an alcohol ban. After lifting it, they left it up to each school to decide what they wanted to do regarding the sales.

Initially, schools like Alabama didn't allow alcohol sales, but they began to at the start of the 2022 football season.

"This new policy allows each campus to decide what is right for them," Alabama athletics said in 2019. "These guidelines will be helpful as we move forward and have future conversations. We have one of the best game-day atmospheres in the country, and we don't envision making changes at this time."

The Georgia Bulldogs open their 2024-25 season against the Clemson Tigers in Atlanta on August 31. Their first actual home game comes a week later, on September 7, against Tennessee Tech.

Head coach Kirby Smart will again head up the coaching staff with Carson Beck as his starting quarterback. They'll look to redeem last season where they lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship.
