Georgia Is Losing a Former 5-Star Recruit to the Transfer Portal

The Georgia Bulldogs lost in the SEC Championship to the Alabama Crimson Tide, thus halting their ambition for a third-straight national championship, and now linebacker Xavian Sorey Jr. is entering the transfer portal.

This season, Sorey Jr., who has two years of eligibility left, played just 188 snaps for the Bulldogs. He had five pressures and one sack. Coming out of IMG Academy, Sorey was a 5-star recruit and one of the top linebackers in the nation for the 2021 recruiting class.

The six-foot-three, 220-pound linebacker released a statement to On3.

"I am immensely proud to have been a part of the University of Georgia Bulldog family for the past three years," Sore said. "I have had the opportunity to learn from some of the best coaches, played with the best players, and been supported by the best fanbase in college football. And though I will forever cherish the magic between the hedges, I have decided to enter the transfer portal. Thank you Coach Smart and the entire Bulldog organization for cultivating a winning mentality within our team and showing us what it takes to be champions. GO-O DAWGS! Xavian Sorey Jr"

In response to this news, fans on X delivered their opinions, with some predicting where he'll end up.

"Been waiting on this one. Huge Auburn target coming out of Highschool. Wouldn't be surprised to see a big push for him by the staff. Not to mention his brother signed with Auburn last recruiting class.. #auburn #auburnfootball," one user wrote, suggesting he'll land with Auburn.

"Come Be a Part of Something Special at Mississippi State. We are known here for Our LB's. Stay A DAWG, A HAILSTATE DAWG and Join a Loyal Family like No Other, and an Atmosphere at Davis Wade Stadium on SEC Saturday's You only Find Here in Starkville MS! HAILSTATE!!!!" another user wrote, doing their best to recruit Sorey Jr. to Mississippi State.

Now, we wait to see where Sorey Jr. and many others in the transfer portal will end up ahead of the 2024 season.
