A handful of plays against McNeese State said a lot about LSU's offense

The Tigers may have only played five offensive snaps against McNeese State last Saturday but those five snaps said a lot about LSU's offensive plans headed into the 2015 season, according to The Advocate's Sheldon Mickles.

During those handful of plays Brandon Harris had a variety of weapons and formations at his disposal, Mickles writes. Instead of simply lining up in the Power I and attempting to execute the old "three yards and a cloud of dust" offense we're accustomed to seeing from Les Miles, the Tigers mixed it up and even played out of a four-receiver set:

After starting off with two running plays for Leonard Fournette that produced a quick first down, offensive coordinator Cam Cameron called an end-around for speedy freshman Donte Jackson, then had Harris swing a pass out to freshman Derrius Guice after he lined up in the backfield with fellow freshman Nick Brossette.

Having Jackson on the field and the two freshman in the backfield at the same time so early in the game may have caught some by surprise, but not Harris.

"We practice a lot of different things," he said with a smile. "This offense is going to be explosive this year."

And, if all goes well, unpredictable.

The Tigers may not be the Oregon Ducks but it's obvious Cameron has bigger plans for LSU's offense this season, based on the little we did see against the Cowboys last week. Offensive creativity hasn't been a priority for LSU in recent seasons but it seems that might be changing in 2015 and that's a good thing.
