The college football season is roughly three short months away, and that means the debate begins as to which teams will make it to the 2016 College Football Playoff. Earlier this week, ESPN.com had a writers' roundtable discussing which conferences have the most teams that have a shot of making the final four. The roundtable listed possible representatives for the SEC, who in both years of the CFP has had a representative — Alabama both years in 2014 and 2015. Listed included Alabama of course, along with Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss and Florida.
"Ole Miss has to prove it's more than Robert Nkemdiche, Laquon Treadwell and Laremy Tunsil," ESPN's Alex Scarborough writes. "But the Rebs have the best quarterback in the league in Chad Kelly, and that counts for a lot. The East, while not as talented as the West, has a shot because the conference title game can act as a virtual play-in game to the playoff. Tennessee, which has to weather this turbulent offseason, has the potential for a breakthrough season with so much young talent coming into its prime."
LSU just needs to find a quarterback, which they haven't been able to do since Zach Mettenberger was in Baton Rouge, and Florida really just has to get by Tennessee and Georgia to clinch a trip to the SEC Title game. Given the committee's view of the SEC as having a strong strength of schedule as a whole, it's unlikely we'll get two SEC teams into the CFP unless there are some major shakeups on Championship Saturday.
