LSU Just Landed the Top Running Back in 2025

The LSU Tigers saw quarterback Jayden Daniels win the Heisman Trophy this past season, and they just secured a recruit they hope will have similar success: five-star running back Harlem Berry, the No. 1 running back in the 2025 class.

Berry reportedly chose LSU over Texas and Florida, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.

"It's a great feeling, just being a 'stay at home' kid — a state hero — I guess you could say and having my family close to home and everything," Berry said to ESPN's Blake Baumgartner.

Berry, an alum of Metairie St. Martin's Episcopal School (based in Louisiana), is 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds.

"What stood out to me was the fact that if I go to LSU I feel I can make an impact and difference in the running back room. Also all my family and friends will be able to come watch me play anytime," Berry said.

This isn't the only five-star offensive recruit the Tigers snared. Five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore will join Berry in 2025, along with four-star linebacker Keylen Moses.

For the 2024 class, LSU will see defensive tackle Dominick McKinley, another top Louisiana prospect, join the program.

On3's Scouting and Rankings Team gave rave reviews of Berry saying things like he "[p]ossesses elite burst and effortless movement skills" and "[w]on state titles in the 100 and 200 meters as a sophomore with times of 10.57 seconds and 21.43 seconds, respectively."

This past season at Metairie St. Martin's Episcopal School, Berry rushed for 2,080 yards and 37 touchdowns. He averaged 13 yards per carry. In the pass game, he had 20 receptions for 401 yards and seven touchdowns.

"I definitely feel I'll be a game changer for LSU's offense, especially with the backs that they have produced," he said. "A lot of them, most of them, have not been like me. A lot of them are power backs, more between the tackle type backs, so I'm excited to see how I fit into that offense."
