LSU's speed-demon frosh knows he's fast, so fast he wants to change how the Tigers approach offense

Freshman athlete Donte Jackson always knew his speed was an asset but he didn't know how much until he came to LSU this summer, according to Nola.com's Jerit Roser.

"I always knew I was fast," Jackson said according to Roser. "From track, I always knew I was kinda fast, but when I came here and got the great work over the summer from (strength and conditioning) coach (Tommy) Moffitt and got speed training and stuff, I feel like they've upped my speed a lot and made my legs stronger and made me just ready to run."

Jackson's speed was evident during LSU's fall camp and before that when he ran an unofficial 4.24 40-yard dash during testing in July. The 5-foot-11, 168-pound athlete is expected to contribute in all three facets of the game, seeing time as a cornerback, a kick returner and a playmaker on offense.

The blazing freshman was pressed for his real 40 time but Jackson played coy.

"Whatever you heard is the truth," Jackson said. "A 4.24(-second) hand time, but a 4.33 laser. But we're not going to get into all that.

"I feel like I can blow. I feel like I can go really fast. I feel like I can bring a sense, a different style to the game to LSU. Obviously we're traditionally power-I. We're gonna hand it off. But I feel like I can bring a lot of different excitement to it."
