Les Miles brings the laughs after a caffeine-induced health scare

We've all been there. You try to lay off caffeine for a while but eventually you decide you can't go without it and maybe you need a little coffee. A little coffee turns into a lot of coffee and suddenly you're in trouble.

A lot of coffee turned into a health scare for Les Miles Monday but LSU's head coach said he's fine after taking a precautionary trip to the hospital. In typical Mad Hater fashion, Miles opened Monday night's press conference with a joke.

"Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated," Miles said paraphrasing the famous Mark Twain quote. "I can tell you that I did in fact have too much coffee to drink today. I certainly did not feel real great about that.

"I have a very quality staff that decided that I should go get examinations and tests. They did a great job and took care of me. I appreciate them very much. I just want everyone to know everything is fine, and we are ready to roll."

Miles said he went without caffeine for six months but decided to start drinking the caffeinated brew again recently and it didn't exactly work out. LSU's head trainer Jack Marucci saw Miles' reaction to the sudden uptick in caffeine and decided it warranted some medical attention.

"It didn't seem like too much," he said. "It went down easy. You have those a lot of times. But I happened to have one in front of my head trainer. I should have just kept quiet and I wouldn't have missed a thing. I wouldn't have had to text all of my kids."

As the old cliche goes, it's better to be safe than sorry. Miles returned to work Monday and will be on the sidelines when No. 14 ranked LSU takes on McNeese State on Sept. 5.
