That's right, folks, Les Miles — yes, the Mad Hatter — is reportedly heading back to LSU and Tiger Stadium to be honored as part of the Tigers' 2007 National Championship team.
This, according to Ross Dellenger of The Advocate, who said that Miles confirmed his visit back to Louisiana State University in a message. He'll be on the field at halftime for the 2007 championship reunion, joining players from the team.
Of course, the juicy drama in this reunion is the fact that Miles was rather unceremoniously fired from LSU last season. In the middle of last season after a loss to Auburn, LSU athletic director Joe Alleva decided it was finally time for the Tigers and Miles to part way. Alleva had Miles' defensive line coach, Ed Orgeron, replace the former national champion first as an interim head coach, and later as the full-time head coach heading into this season.
Miles tried to find another coaching gig but landed as a football analyst on ESPN and FOX Sports instead. Those aren't bad gigs at all, and they certainly lack the stress of being a head coach, but one has to wonder if Miles may feel a twinge of resentment this Saturday.
He'll be in attendance for LSU's clash against Auburn, somewhat reminiscent of last season. His old offensive line coach, Orgeron, will be wearing the big headset. Meanwhile, the man who fired him, Alleva, will be in the building and perhaps even part of the ceremony.
