Les Miles is a member of a (very) intriguing group of available college football coaches that could be getting back into the sport beginning in 2018. Predictably, the former LSU head coach has been linked to a number of jobs but, considering his currently family tie to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, it makes sense that his name would pop up on the radar in Lincoln.
Sean Keeler of Land of 10 recently spoke to Miles about just that and, given that Mike Riley remains employed as the program's head coach right now, Miles said the following:
"Well, no one has ever asked me, period. So I kind of like it that way. I think that's the best way to go.
"One thing about me is, I'm a coach, and I'm rooting for coaches. And I [understand] how difficult it is to win, and I want the team that deserves to win to win ... and I want fairness. But I don't necessarily point at coaches that I want to lose. That is not how I feel.
"Certainly, Mike Riley has done a good job recruiting my son. I want them to win ... and to turn Nebraska into the sort of team that it's always been."
As he notes, Miles' son, Ben Miles, is on the roster right now but, even if he wasn't, someone would likely mention Miles as a stealth candidate.
It makes sense that he would be linked given his significant profile but many believe Nebraska needs an innovative offensive mind to succeed and that, well, isn't Les Miles. Regardless, it won't be a surprise if we keep hearing about Les in conversations with several jobs and the Huskers represent one of them.
