Just last week, five-star defensive tackle Ishmael Sopsher (6-foot-5, 279 pounds, Amite, La.) was awarded the No. 1 overall recruit ranking for the 2019 class.
That's the good news for Sopsher. The bad news for most teams chasing him, though? One college program has a heavy lead for the five-star, and that is going to be a difficult lead to cut in to.
As of press time, LSU currently holds all 14 predictions for Sopsher in the 247Sports Crystal Ball. This is all while Sopsher holds offers from schools like Alabama, Georgia, Miami, and Florida State.
Sopsher has the chance to be a game-changing level of recruit. He's got a rare combination of size and athleticism, which is daunting considering he will probably get bigger in college. Sopsher has a lot of similarities to former five-star Ed Oliver, who is currently wrecking all challengers on the defensive line at Houston.
Don't expect Sopsher to commit any time soon, though. He has the benefit of 10 months until the early signing period, and almost a year until the traditional National Signing Day. He will have plenty of time to make visits and come to a decision on which school is really best for him.
