Herman's move comes after it was reported LSU was moving in to hire him and reports circulated that he could be using the Tigers as leverage to land at Texas. That eventually happened, as Herman reportedly has landed at Texas.

LSU walking away from the table comes after the Tigers reportedly offered Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher up to $6.8 million annually. Fisher said no, leading to interim coach Ed Orgeron eventually being named the head coach at LSU.
Orgeron, a significantly cheaper option in the long run, could keep Dave Aranda as defensive coordinator and is expected to chase Lane Kiffin as the team's offensive coordinator.
