In what was a surprise to most who cover the Seattle Seahawks, the team opened up the NFL season playing defensively out of the nickel package against their first week opponent the Miami Dolphins. This meant that rookie and former Alabama standout nose tackle Jarran Reed became a week one starter for the Seahawks.
Interestingly Reed made his first NFL start playing opposite of Anthony Steen, another Alabama standout, who plays center for the Dolphins and was making his first NFL start. Reed was a second round pick by the Seahawks and had a very good first game with the team.
Reed made a big impression on the broadcasters for Seattle's game Sunday, who declared that "like most players out of Alabama, Jarran Reed is prepared to play in the NFL".
