This could prove to be a major game-changer for the 2018 college football season.
According to Kyle Rowland of the Toledo Blade, Michigan is now considered the front-runner to land Ole Miss quarterback Shea Patterson.
The potentially bigger news there is the belief that Patterson — transferring amid NCAA sanctions at Ole Miss — could be eligible to play immediately for Jim Harbaugh and Michigan.
Patterson is expected to take an official visit to Michigan this weekend.
Considering some of the issues that Michigan has had at quarterback, Patterson would be a very welcome upgrade for the future of the Wolverines.
Patterson missed the final five games of the 2017 season with injury, but he had proved to be a valuable weapon for Ole Miss this season. Patterson is a former five-star recruit of the 2016 recruiting class, having ranked as the No. 4 overall recruit by the 247Sports Composite.
In the first seven games of the 2017 season, Patterson threw for 2,259 yards and 17 touchdowns against nine interceptions.
