Kiffin, who led Ole Miss to a historic 11-win season, confirmed the rumors on Sunday afternoon with a statement on social media. LSU then posted a graphic confirming the hire.

"After a lot of prayer and time spent with family, I made the difficult decision to accept the head coaching position at LSU," Kiffin said to start his statement.

"I was hoping to complete a historic six season run with this year's team by leading Ole Miss through the playoffs, capitalizing on the team's incredible success and their commitment to finish strong, and investing everything into a playoff run with guardrails in place to protect the program in any areas of concern.

"My request to do so was denied by Keith Carter (Athletic Director) despite the team also asking him to allow me to keep coaching them so they could better maintain their high level of performance. Unfortunately, that means Friday's Egg Bowl was my last game coaching the Rebels.

"While I am looking forward to a new start with a unique opportunity at LSU, I will forever cherish the incredible six years I spent at Ole Miss and will be rooting hard for the team to complete their mission and bring a championship to Oxford."

Kiffin started his head coaching career in 2009 with Tennessee, but he departed Knoxville after one season to move across the country and coach USC. He remained in Southern California for just under four seasons while posting a combined 28-15 record with one bowl game appearance.

The veteran coach then spent three seasons at Florida Atlantic, where he posted a 27-13 record with two bowl game wins, before heading to Ole Miss in 2020.

Since taking over as head coach of the Rebels, Kiffin has led the team to a 55-19 record with five bowl game appearances and three bowl wins. Now, the Rebels will likely take part in the College Football Playoffs. They just will not do so with their head coach as Kiffin heads to LSU.
