Former South Carolina starting QB Connor Mitch to transfer

The South Carolina QB race just got more interesting.

Quarterback Connor Mitch will be transferring from South Carolina, according to The State.

Mitch had won the starting job at the beginning of the 2015 season, starting two games before a shoulder injury derailed his season. Mitch will be looking to graduate from South Carolina, which would make him eligible to play immediately upon transfer.

"I have enjoyed my time at South Carolina and will graduate later this summer," said Mitch in a statement on Friday. "I believe it's in my best interest to continue my playing career at another school. I'd like to thank all the Gamecock fans for their support during my time in Columbia."

Mitch will have two years of eligibility remaining.

South Carolina's quarterback race is still up in the air, but losing Mitch will not completely hurt them. Perry Orth, Brandon McIlwain, and Lorenzo Nunez are already competing for the job, and it's clear why Mitch is probably transferring: he had already fallen behind everyone else in the race.
