Report: South Carolina to land former ACC running back

Looks like he will be a Gamecock after all.

North Carolina running back Ty'Son Williams was nearly a South Carolina Gamecock in the 2015 recruiting class, but decided to go a little north to UNC. It looks like he might end up a Gamecock anyway as he has applied for a transfer to the school.

According to The State, the Sumter, South Carolina native wanted to move back to his home state:

"I wanted to transfer closer to home and I feel like this will be the best fit," Williams said. "North Carolina is a great school and a great program, but I want to be closer to family."

Due to transfer restrictions placed on him by the Tar Heels, Williams wouldn't be able to receive a scholarship during his first year with the Gamecocks. However, he has a creative workaround for that using the GI Bill. Williams' mother was just recently promoted to the rank of major by the Army. So, if he's accepted to school, his plan is to walk on the football team and redshirt in 2016 with the hopes of going on scholarship for 2017.

That's called having a good backup plan. Hopefully Wiliams can complete the transfer before the fall semester so he can get on campus and get familiar with coach Will Muschamp's system. Williams was a former four-star recruit and ran for 57 yards on 19 carries for the Tar Heels in 2015.
